...The Big Chicken

The Big Chicken
The Big Chicken was built in 1963 for a restaurant called Johnny Reb’s Chick-Chuck-‘N’-Shake. The owner, Stanley R. “Tubby” Davis, created the seven story tall structure as a way to advertise his restaurant. Soon the towering landmark was used as a reference point and phrases like “turn left at the big chicken” or “just one mile south of the big chicken” became common. A few years after construction of the big chicken, Davis sold Johnny Reb’s to his brother who turned it into a franchise of KFC.

Historic Marietta Square

Historic Marietta Square
There is something for everyone at the Marietta Square in downtown Marietta, GA. At the center of the square is Glover Park, a great place for picnics, photos and playtime. During the 19th century, the land was donated by Mayor John Glover with the stipulation that the site must always remain a park or it will revert to his heirs. A fountain sits at the heart of the park, but children will make a bee-line for the train engine playground featuring a replica of the famous locomotive known as The General. The gazebo on site is a wonderful destination for photos and for weddings. Opposite it, the “bandstand” (or stage) is a focal point for concerts and events.

LIFESTYLE

Marietta is considered one of Georgia's best-managed cities, and has garnered national recognition for offering a high quality of life for its residents. The city is located about 20 miles northwest of Atlanta, and is the county seat of Cobb County.
Marietta's mild winters (lows only occasionally get below freezing) make it an attractive place for outdoor activities. Summers can be hot, and residents can cool off at the Sewell Park Pool, operated by the Cobb County government, or hit the rink at the Marietta Ice Center.
