Card 41 is off to Rüsselsheim, Germany!

Our next postcard has been sent to Rüsselsheim, a town in the southwest of Germany, 1500 km from Ourense.

Manuela, an ESO student, has chosen a beautiful view of the spa of As Burgas, a complex built 6 years ago behind the Burgas springs for locals and visitors to enjoy a thermal bath right in the town centre!

Discover Ourense XXXV: The Spa of as Burgas

Postcard 41 (sent to the German town of Ruesselheim) features a recently built spa area located right behind As Burgas water springs.

The spa of as Burgas was inaugurated in 2010 and uses the natural spring of the Burgas, which, as you know from previous posts, continuously produces over 300 litres of water per minute at 67 ºC. The design of the spa, an outside heated pool, was the work of the architect Cesar Portela and its unique integration into the old town makes it one of the very few urban spas in Spain.

The water, at 37ºC, is recommendable for skin conditions and rheumatism.

Postcard 21 is on its way to Tüningen, Germany!

Postcard 21 is a very special card! It was one of the winners of our Ourense-themedpostcard contest and it represents two of the most emblematic landmarks in our town: As Burgas and the Roman Bridge.

Its author, Paula Gómez (6º primaria) has written her own postcard and has sent it to Tony, our German friend from Tubingen, 1,967 km away! Hope he likes it!!

Discover Ourense III: As Burgas

Roni, from Kent (US) has received this beautiful illustration of one of Ourense's best-known landmarks, As Burgas.

The springs are located in the middle of the city, very near the Plaza Mayor and the Cathedral. Water gushes out from three sources: “Burgas de Arriba”, “Burgas do Medio” and “Burgas de Abaixo”. Water temperature kis really high, between 64ºC and 68ºC.

Nobody knows for certain where these waters come from... some people think it comes from a spring situated under the cathedral, but others believe it comes from a subterranean volcano! In any case, “As Burgas” water is one of Ourense's most treasured resources; it is used for therapeutic purposes such as healing wounds and skin condition.

If you ever visit Ourense, As Burgas is a must-see!!

Stop 3: Kent (US)

Kent is the destination of our third postcard. But careful, it is not Kent in the United Kingdom, it is Kent in Washington State in the United States of America!
