A wonderful postcard to a wonderful place, Saint Petersburg!

Hi there!
Postcard 55 features a wonderful digital illustration by an artist we all admire, Rafael Cachaldora. As you may remember, last year we sent 5 postcards by Cachaldora which represented various places of Ourense's old town. This time, however, the spot represented is not located in Ourense; card 55 constitutes a vibrant and captivating representation of the well-known cathedral of Santiago de Compostela from Obradoiro Square (Square of the Stonecutters).

Santiago's Cathedral is the final destination of the Camiño de Santiago and the centre point for the celebration of the Feast of Saint James on July, 25th. ESO 2 students have written the postcard in Spanish upon its recipent's request and sent it to one of the most amazing cities in the world, Saint Petersburg, the origin of the 18th postcard received in this project.

Rafael Cachaldora visits us!

We are so thrilled! Today we’ve had a very inspiring talk with an artist from Ourense that we all admire, Rafael Cachaldora. You may well remember that we sent 5 postcards featuring some of his colourful and unique representations of various emblematic places in Ourense.

On the occasion of our school’s Third Book Festival, Rafael was invited to give a talk on his artistic production, which is not only limited to digital representations of Ourense but includes fascinating abstract paintings that evoke the prehistoric art of our earliest ancestors.

Cachaldora has told us many interesting things about his sources of inspiration, the evolution of his artistic career, his techniques and workshop, his exhibitions worldwide and, very importantly, about the need to be true to one's passion.

He was very kind to bring us a book of his 2014 exhibition in the Museo Provincial de Ourense, which includes a very special signed dedication:

Our ESO 4 and Baccalaureate 1 students created a piece inspired in Cachaldora’s style and have given it to the artist after the talk.

He very kindly signed postcards to all the students and a even dedicated one to our project!

Thanks a million, Rafael! We love your art!!

If you want to know more about Cachaldora’s work, visit his website or follow him on Facebook.

Postcard 28 is off to Brescia, Italy

Buone notizie!!
We have sent our first postcard to Italy! Postcard 28 is off to Brescia, a town located in the region of Lombardy in the northern part of the country, 1487 km from Ourense!

We hope Monica and Giuseppe, will appreciate Rafael Cachaldora's marvellous illustration of a well-known street in Ourense's old town, rúa Viriato.

Thank you Valeria for writing this postcard and let our Italian friends know about this lively street, the meeting place for anybody who would like to enjoy Ourense's nightlife.

If you want to know what Rúa Viriato is like, visit our section DISCOVER OURENSE.

Valeria has virtually explored Brescia and has found out many interesting facts which have been published in EXPLORING PLACES.

Grazie mille, ragazzina!

Discover Ourense XXVIII: Rúa Viriato

Rafael Cachalodora's postcard is a marvellous representation of Rúa Viriato at the heart of Ourense's old town.

Terrazas na zona dos viños.

Rúa Viriato is a must-stop in the "tapas route" in Ourense's "wine area". "Ir de viños" or to go wine drinking, is one of the identity traits of Ourense. In a small enclave of streets and squares surrounding the cathedral, the ourensanos enjoy a wide selection of fine wines together with "pinchos" or "tapas" like Galician pie, ham, potatoes, Spanish omelette, octopus, etc...
Here's an album with some mouth-watering images of Ourense's best tapas. Enjoy!
