PLACES TO VISIT
Panketal is in the state of Branderburg, where we can visit many places. It holds plenty of surprises and worthwhile experiences. Many of the State’s towns provide an interesting combination of culture and nature: palaces, churches and castles.
Albert Einstein’s House and Caputh Castle
This place, in the centre of which are located Caputh Castle and Park, was already appreciated by the citizens of Berlin and Potsdam a hundred years ago. Built in 1662 and extended in 1671, it is the only castle of the Great Elector that has been preserved in the Potsdam cultural landscape.

Stahnsdorf Cemetery
The Stahnsdorf southwest cemetery was opened in 1909. Here, the horticulturist Louis Meyer succeeded in creating a dignified combination of horticultural and cemetery architecture. There are 120,000 graves on the extensive site, including those of many prominent figures, such as the industrialist Werner von Siemens, the artist Heinrich Zille or the director Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau. In addition, 1,172 soldiers from Great Britain and other Commonwealth countries, who died in prisoner of war camps after World War I, were buried in Stahnsdorf.

Branderburg Gate
Branderburg Gate |
The seven year’s war was won in 1770. A triumphal arch was to express the joy over this: the Brandenburg Gate was erected in the centre of Potsdam and is today the crowning start of the axis from Luisenplatz (a square in close proximity to Sanssouci Park) to Brandenburger Straße, Potsdam’s pedestrian precinct and up to St. Peter’s and St. Paul’s Church. The baroque houses of Brandenburger Straße date back to the 18th century.
