WHERE IS COIMADAI?

Location of Coimadai in Australia
Coimadai is a rural locality 10 km north of Bacchus Marsh and 48 km north-west of Melbourne. It is immediately west of Merrimu Reservoir and is situated in the valley formed by the Pyrete or Coimadai Creek which drains southwards from the Lerderderg hills. The creek valley provides the route for the Bacchus Marsh-Gisborne Road.

Coimadai is renowned for its marvelous scenery and its historic and cultural heritage. The original Coimadai was a pioneering settlement engaged in timber cutting, mining and farming.

Merrimu Reservoir

Merrimu Reservoir
Merrimu Reservoir is located on Pyrites Creek, a tributary of the Werribee River, 10kms north-east of Bacchus Marsh and approximately 50kms from Melbourne. The reservoir was constructed in three stages from 1969 to 1986 and has a capacity of about 32,000 ML. The water in the reservoir is primarily used to supply drinking water to Melton and Bacchus Marsh and visitors can enjoy lots of wonderful facilities.

Pyrete Range - Lerderderg State Park

Lerderderg State Park

The Pyrete Range is between Mount Bullengarook and Mount Gisborne and forms a substantial part of the Lake Merrimu Water Supply Catchment. The Range covers an extensive area of relatively undisturbed old growth forest in steep and rugged terrain. An incredibly special place it supports flora and fauna communities of State significance and is a site of regional geological and geomorphologic significance.
