Summer holidays start today and this means the end of
classes and of our activity for this academic year. We would like to express our special thanks
to the students and teachers who have taken part in this project; it’s been so exciting
to send postcards to so many different countries and read all the interesting
information you’ve shared about Ourense and the destination/origin of the
different cards!
We’ve received 58 cards and have sent 48 so far, which
makes a total of 106 travelling postcards! Postcrossing at Padre Feijoo-Zorelle has been a huge success and we look
forward to sending more cards in September, when we come back from summer
holidays.

We are travelling to Finland today thanks to
Marjo, a kindergarden teacher, who has very kindly sent us a lovely postcard
featuring some of the wonderful Finnish flora and fauna.

It is the second
largest lake in Finland. The lake drains into the Gulf of Finland via the Kymi
River. Until the 1940s Lake Päijänne was a major transportation channel in the
Central Finland. Numerous ships transported passengers and freight between the
villages and cities on the shores of Päijänne.
The Himos holiday
resort originated in 1984, when Juhani Ojala and Päivi Kuokkanen founded and
constructed the slopes of Himos Ski Resort.
During the past
decades, Himos has gained great popularity among skiers and winter tourists
thanks to its wide-ranging, high-quality services, snow-quarantee and long
skiing season.
It covers 19
square kilometres and was established in 1982. Its scenery is fluctuating by
its level and the vegetation is dominated by Scots pine and Norway spruce
forests and bogs. Imprints of early human settlement and cultivation have been
found in the area. The national park is located by the lake Isojärvi after
which it has got its name.

and developing city in the middle of Finland, on the shores of Lake Päijänne.
